PRINCE GEORGE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION RECIPIENT OF LEGACY FUND FROM THE RECENT ROAD TO THE ROAR EVENT, PRE-OLYMPIC CURLING TRIALS

The Road to the Roar Committee is in the final stages of wrapping up the recent pre-olympic curling trials event held November 10 – 14th at the CN Centre. The Prince George Community Foundation was on hand Wednesday afternoon to receive a cheque in the amount of $25,000 which will be directed to an endowment fund where the proceeds of the investment will go to curling or curling related sports in Prince George. President, Jim Imrich noted that the Foundation has been the recipient of legacy funds from many such events in Prince George, most recently the 2008 BC Seniors Games as well as the RBC Cup and in 2000 the Scott Tournament of Hearts. “It’s a way of giving back to the Community for the long term” he said. “The original amount contributed is never depleted as only the income earned is distributed”.

During the five day event it is estimated that as much as $2 Million in economic activity went into the City. Co-chair, Larry Parker noted that 25,000 were in attendance to enjoy the event and that the dollars returned to the community have definitely proven to be worthwhile. “All in all the entire event was a huge success” he said. “The CCA was very pleased with the attention to detail that went into the event here”.

The Prince George Community Foundation assisted in the 50/50 draw during the 16 draw event which saw an additional $17,369.50 go into the pockets of happy attendees to the event. “We are pleased that the energy put into this event on our behalf was profitable.” Community Foundation Executive Director, Judy Neiser said, “A team of volunteers from both the foundation and the committee were outstanding and it is even more rewarding to have been chosen to steward the legacy fund being left to the community. It’s a win-win”.
