The City of Prince George, in partnership with the Prince George Community Foundation (PGCF), is proud to launch the Medal of Excellence and Good Citizenship, a new award recognizing residents who have made a lasting, positive impact in our community.

Who Can Be Nominated?
The award honors individuals who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to improving life in Prince George through:
- Volunteerism or philanthropy
- Professional contributions
- Acts of courage or generosity
- Excellence in a particular field
- Leadership that inspires others and creates lasting positive change
Up to three individuals will be recognized each year, and awards may be granted posthumously.
Selection Criteria
Honouring Community Leadership
Recipients of the Medal of Excellence and Good Citizenship are celebrated for their lasting contributions to Prince George. This prestigious recognition includes:
- A medal and lapel pin, symbolizing dedication and service to the community
- A $1,000 donation made in the recipient's name to the David Douglas Botanical Garden Society, helping to cultivate a lasting legacy in a dedicated section of the garden
- A commemorative plaque marking the recipient's contribution within the garden
- Public recognition at a special Council meeting, followed by a celebratory reception
Through this award, the City and the Prince George Community Foundation honour individuals whose leadership, generosity, and volunteerism have enriched the community for years to come.
How Nominations Work
The Prince George Community Foundation will lead the independent adjudication committee to review nominations and select recipients. Final selections will be submitted to the City for Council approval and public recognition.

Background
- The program was approved by City Council following a citizen committee review, with Council directing staff to establish an annual recognition program in November 2024.
- Current elected officials, City staff, and individuals running for public office in the year of nomination are not eligible.
- The City has allocated funding to support the program and partnered with PGCF to ensure independent, transparent adjudication aligned with community values.
